The cold snap this week has reminded us that we are heading into the depths of the bleak midwinter and with the realisation that there are only three weeks until the Christmas break, we find ourselves turning our attention to festive preparations and performances.

Our youngest pupils are busy preparing to take to the stage and my Head Girls are eagerly asking at what point can they begin to put up fairy lights and decorations!

Christmas in Britain is a festive season filled with unique traditions, family gatherings and public celebrations. For many of our school community, Christmas will hold particular religious significance, but I hope that for all of our families it will be an opportunity for us to come together as a school and celebrate what makes our EHS community so special.

We know that great education is built on a sense of security and belonging. When pupils feel comfortable being themselves, they are free to learn and grow. But this does not just happen. It takes time. It takes a collaborative approach and it requires every person involved in a pupils education to work positively together for the benefit of the child. The evidence shows that girls perform best in single sex environments, that this educational model challenges, inspires and achieves remarkable results. The data shows that 95% of pupils in all-girls schools feel supported by their teachers, compared to 84% within co-educational schools. We see this in the classroom everyday where we celebrate a culture of aspiration and excellence, where girls express themselves freely and demonstrate higher-order thinking without social pressures.

We proudly launched our very first EHS Prep Podcast last week and Episode One was an opportunity for me to chat to Mrs Clare Macro about 150 years of EHS Girls education. It made me reflect on what a special place EHS Prep School is and how remarkable our girls are. They are not afraid to question, to challenge and to ask why? They are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in and, best of all, they are aspirational, because what they really love to do... is to learn.

Wishing you all a restful weekend.
