Specialist teaching is at the heart of the EHS Prep experience

At EHS Prep we prepare your daughter for 11+ and Senior School entrance examinations. Our unique environment enables girls to try out new and unfamiliar concepts with learning, known as intellectual risk-taking, helping to cultivate curiosity, creativity, and develop problem-solving skills. We prepare girls for success both in and beyond school , with a curiosity-driven culture that ensures our girls reach their full academic potential. EHS girls are taught by subject specialists for Science, Music, Languages and P.E.

Robotics, Coding and Digital Learning

Every girl from Reception to Year Six is provided with a 1:1 iPad. Strategic integration of digital technology in the classroom allows for a blended learning approach so that girls are well-prepared for the future. Our state-of-the-art Computer suite is well resourced with programmable robots and coding is at the heart of our computing curriculum.

Balanceability

Girls in Nursery, Kindergarten and Reception take part in the weekly sessions following the UK’s first accredited program designed to teach young children to ride a bicycle without training wheels using ergonomic balance bikes.

Outdoor Learning

Our youngest pupils enjoy weekly Forest School sessions and our older girls make use of our Outdoor Classroom and School Allotment to enhance and inspire their teaching and learning experience.

Ignite

Ignite is an innovative Year Six Enrichment programme designed to support personal growth and prepare girls for the world beyond school. Through a carefully curated mix of academic challenge, creative exploration, emotional awareness and real-world learning, the programme helps pupils develop the confidence, independence and curiosity they need to take their next steps.

Stretch and Challenge

There is evidence that girls, and in particular higher attaining girls, can struggle to take risks with their learning. Where achievement is routinely praised above all else, students can develop an unhealthy habit of only completing tasks that guarantee success. In a world where anything short of perfection is perceived as negative, the prospect of failure, looking foolish or disappointing others can become so distressing as to prevent these children from reaching beyond their comfort zone or taking any form of risk whatsoever. At EHS we embrace and champion a growth mindset philosophy, embed independent learning challenges and support girls with targetted interventions to ensure they are reaching their potential.

Benefits of a "through school"

One of the benefits of being a 'through school' is that girls have access to facilities and specialist teacher expertise not found in stand-alone Prep Schools. Our multi-use performance space The Octagon, the Music School and our on-site swimming pool and large gymnasium are good examples.

Beyond the Curriculum

At EHS Prep, learning does not just take place within the classroom. Our girls benefit from an ambitious and enriching range of co-curricular activities, clubs, visiting speakers, themed days and creative workshops – all designed to bring your daughter’s learning to life in exciting, memorable ways.

We have over 45 different co-curricular clubs and activities available each week and these change on a termly basis. Some of these clubs take place at lunchtime, whilst others run before or after school. Many of these are included in the school fees, whilst others incur a small, additional cost.

As the girls get older they begin to travel further afield for their school visits with the opportunity for residential visits. In Year 4, the girls can experience the outdoor activities on offer at Boreatton Park, the PGL adventure centre.

Next comes the opportunity for residential visits. Girls in Year 5 spend a week at the Cranedale Field Studies Centre, in Yorkshire, to extend their Science and Geography skills. France is the destination for the Year 6 girls who have the chance to study French culture and some adventure activities.

Back at school, the Year 6 Summer Term curriculum also includes a programme of enrichment activities to extend the girls’ skills and interests further.  This follows the Year 6 annual musical production featuring all of the girls and providing a lasting set of shared memories.
