Student Voice: On Friday 14 November, Edgbaston High School was full of excitement as our annual Children in Need Talent Show took over the Octagon once again.

The atmosphere was buzzing from the very start, with students and staff gathering to cheer on a wonderful mix of performers. From singers and dancers to musicians, the afternoon was packed with talent, courage, and plenty of school spirit.

The show opened beautifully with a group of Year 13s performing a Pitch Perfect mashup that instantly set the tone for the afternoon. They were followed by Eliza, who brought her guitar and stunning vocals onto the stage, earning huge cheers from the audience.

Next up was Jessica, who delivered a classical and captivating performance of Tarantella by Sarasate, impressing everyone with her exceptional instrumental skill. It was clear just how much practice and heart had gone into each performance. After that, we had Ava, who took the audience to new heights with her powerful rendition of Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked. Her angelic vocals made the whole Octagon feel as though they were floating along with her.

Our penultimate performer, Ellen, gave a beautiful and skilful performance of Perfect by P!nk, made even more impressive by the fact that she designed her stunning costume herself. Up next was Freya, who closed the main line-up with confidence and charisma. A self-taught guitarist and talented vocalist, she performed Good Luck, Babe! by Chappell Roan, filling the Octagon with emotion and energy.

After a tense pause, the judges announced the results. Our winner was Ellen, Year 11, who received a huge round of applause and very well-deserved praise. We were also treated to a special performance by last year’s winner, Sarah, who returned to sing Anything by Adrianne Lenker. What a fantastic comeback!

A huge thankyou goes to everyone who performed, organised, judged, and supported the show. Thanks to the whole school’s generosity and enthusiasm, we raised an incredible £482 for Children in Need. What a wonderful afternoon and what a brilliant celebration of EHS talent.
